“The klan, he said, obtained a large list of needy from the welfare department and then distributed the food baskets and money after a committee had determined what were considered the most worthy cases. The klan spokesman said the ‘ladies organization’ of the Augusta Klavern also has given food baskets valued at more than $150 in addition to those given by the men. The baskets, he added, were given ‘indiscriminately’ and went to both white and Negro families.

The audacity.

This if anything should prove how racism works in America. 

It shouldn’t be that surprising that the KKK is handing out food to black people, in reality the KKK had no problem with African Americans “who knew their place”, the problem the KKK has is with “uppity niggers”,  black people who wanted equality or fought against racism, or believed they were “on the same level” as their white counterparts. The KKK had no problem giving African Americans “basic humanity”, they need someone to step all over and who’s willing to be stepped on, so providing black families with free food donations reinforces their power by letting them know “who their daddy” is, and forces African Americans to “not bite the hand that feeds” them. 

In exchange for food, you give up your integrity, and allow the KKK to remain dominate and exert their power.

This is also a form of brainwashing. By coming off as “the good guys” the KKK is able to trick African Americans into beliving that they’re not that bad, and that maybe their ideals (white supremacism,no mixing of the races) might actually be a good thing for blacks as well. It comes off as “How bad can we really be?! We’re giving you free food! Trust me, what we stand for benefits YOU as much as it does US!!! Don’t go join your local chapter of the NAACP!! White Supremacy is good for the both of us! You want to preserve your race as well, don’t you?! Without us, there would be no you!! All you have to do is know your place,and we’ll take care of the rest!!! Take care of our children, clean our houses,avoid that silly equality propaganda and we won’t come lynch you,rape your wife,and burn your house to the ground!”

This creates a reality in which black people become submissive to racism out of both fear and influence
