Maurice Sendak on e-books.

Allec! Looooook at this!

Yay death to e-books!

How dare we save trees!

hate this shit too

If I can’t smell it and flip the pages really fast underneath my fingers, it’s not a book. :|

Because this is how to make a literary generation: deny them the format they would otherwise read on and be an elitist prick about it.

And people wonder why video games are taking over

So by your logic, the only way to “make” a literary generation is encouraging them to rely further on a useless, expensive pieces of technology? I’ll continue to be an elitist prick than a prick who needs “the new big thing” to enjoy every aspect of my life.

Says the person communicating on a piece of technology. Maybe for you an e-reader is ‘useless’ but for people like me with vision issues we kind of fucking rely on these for easier reading with adjustable fonts. You can go eat a stale bagel.

Not to mention I am really appreciative of the “save the trees” factor. I fail to see how cutting down fewer trees is a bad thing.

Also I’m pretty sure an e-reader is much lighter to carry than say, a 400-page hardcover novel. Definitely useful for reading on the go, if you’re sitting on buses for 3 hours a day like I am and your body is going to be strained by carrying something that big around like I would.

All it is is a new means of accessibility for some people. No one’s saying paper books are to be abolished and e-readers will become mandatory. It’s a fucking option, and certainly not one that causes anyone any harm to choose, so there’s no reason to get all holier-than-thou about it.

I wanted to think this was all silly at first but it really isn’t. I, too, was one of the people that would constantly whine about hating e-books and how I’d never use one.

Then I realized I couldn’t afford all the books I wanted, I wouldn’t have the space I needed for them, and that I just needed to stop being picky about it.

My entire pc is like a virtual library because of how much I have on there. Countless books and series. I seriously don’t know where to start with them, it’s so exciting!

For someone that used to be so picky and elitist about it, I sure am grateful, man.
